10 years
back, engineering was a student’s ticket to successful life. Not anymore. There
are bunch of engineers in our country who are unemployable. Reasons are many.
If you are frustrated engineering graduate struggling financially without your
core related job even after 4 or 5 years of completion then you must know the
pain behind it.
You can’t
blame anyone for this. Not your parents who forced you to join it, not your college
and lecturers who don’t gave you proper practical technical knowledge of
industry, not your friends with whom you have preferred to enjoy rather than
studies.
"Let me give
you an example of 91% ranked Intermediate student who joined engineering,
forced by parents. He knows how to grasp answers, write well and to pass in the
exam. He did exactly for the 4 years and passed out engineering with first
class marks. Now what, he don’t know about industry, no one to guide him or
refer him for job. Guess what, he landed up on doing some software/tech related
courses on which he spent 6-12 months of time. It’s not too late to realize him
that he lost his money by doing these courses which are nothing for his further
career. To survive his rest days, he ended up by joining unrelated job to
engineering and the struggle continues."
Unfortunately
this is most case which is happening in India. According to sources, 80%
engineering colleges are unaffiliated only in one state Andhra Pradesh. There
are many states like this. In the name of engineering some rich personalities
are running unacceptable business of education and yielding poor quality
results.
Though
graduates from premier engineering colleges such as IIT’s, NIT’s MIT’s are
still in demand, it is the concern about thousands of such engineering colleges
which generates lakhs of engineers every year who don’t have necessary
knowledge. Their employability is really thing to be worried now.
On the
other hand, there are few really good colleges which teaches quality education in
terms of practical’s, corporate skills, industry knowledge and we should really
appreciate such college management & teachers who are making great lives of
students.
Still lot
more of this; parents are still pushing their kids towards engineering from
schooling itself. Luckily top performers do get great salaries and many other ends
up doing jobs which are non-technical or shifting to MBA path.
According
to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) 60% of 8 lakh engineers
graduating from institutions across India every year remains unemployed. There
are many reasons to be blamed for this scenario, few are:
1. Outdated
method of teaching and measuring student’s knowledge
2. Less practical’s
– More Theories in classroom
3. Poor soft
& communication skills
4. Zero
industry knowledge
Even though
mostly students lack their discipline and interest towards their studies, it’s not
the main reason for this employment. They can always do better if the system is
better. Damn, there are number of millionaires who really got their graduated
caps. We can’t judge any student if he/she fails engineering. They can do much
better than those who passed with distinctions.
Getting on
track, Govt. is doing all necessary things whatever they can do, by laying off
unaffiliated poor quality engineering colleges. It’s the responsibility of
college management also to assist Govt. by playing their part of role to make
better India.
Every
college management should ensure that engineering aspirants get all the
in-depth information related to their subject in concise manner.
1. Focus more
on practical rather than theory
2. Make sure
student gets industry knowledge rather than Book’s
3. Make sure
that you allot industry professional to every class to teach basics of industry
works, corporate skills and most importantly self confidence
4. Spend money
to get good placements in your college so that every student gets placed before
they leave your college.
No need to
say that youth of India is aspirational and well knowledgeable. It is the
education system has to inspire them, motivate, and guide them at every level
of his/her study to brush their skills by keeping placing them into right job
as main motto.
