Indian Presidential Election, 2017 - Procedure, Eligibility, Nomination

Time is approaching to elect a new President of India.

presidential election will be held in India before 25 July 2017, the day when the responsibility of Current President's term expires.

The President is the head of the republic of India, not only is the president is the head of state but also the formal head of executive legislature and judiciary.

So it’s very important to every Indian citizen to know, how our president will be elected. What is the process for this? What are the steps for voting and what is the value of vote? Who are suitable people to participate for voting?

YES!! Here it comes to know, what is the whole process of electing the president of our India

1) Stages in Presidential election:
  • Notification of Election and Appointment of the Returning Officer
  • Filing of Nomination Papers
  • Election Campaign
  • Polling & Counting of votes
  • Result Announcement
  • Appointment & Oath Taking
2) Qualifications for the candidate seeking election to the Office of President:
  • She/he should be a citizen of India,
  • She/he should be of 35 years or above of age,
  • She/he should be qualified for becoming a member of the Lok Sabha,
  • She/he should not hold any office of profit, and
  • She/he should not be a member of the Parliament or of a State Legislature.

3) Voting Procedure:

The president is elected by an electoral college consisting of the elected members of both houses of parliament (Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha), the elected members of the Legislative assemblies (Vidhan Sabha) of the 29 states and the elected members of the legislative assemblies of the Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry.

Electoral College =(Members of parliament and their total value of votes) + (Members of Vidhan sabha {29 States, Delhi Union Territory & Puducherry} and their total value of votes )

So, after calculating total value of votes from both Members of parliament & Legislative Assembly – Total Value of votes is 1,098,882.

Total MLA's - 4120 & their Total Value of Votes is 549474
Total MP's  - 776 & their Total Value of Votes is 549408

Total Electoral = 549475 +549408 = 1,098,882

So finally maximum votes of winning candidate should be elected as our President goes to Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Hope we elect best president to our country… JAI HIND !!!!
